An Evening at "Casino Royale"

Fond of Bond?  Dream of being 007 or Q or M?  Here’s your chance, for just a few hours, to live the part.  On Friday, April 27, The Nantucket Arts Council will hold “Half’ween 2-007,” a benefit with a James Bond theme.

Held at the Rose & Crown, 23 South Water Street, from 7:30 pm, the event is part costume party, part casino, and part live entertainment.  The theme was selected in honor of the year 2-007.  Black tie or “Bad Guy” attire is suggested, and Bond Girls are most welcome.  Be sure to arrive in costume to get your picture taken on the Red Carpet.

The evening will begin with a casino from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Bond-style electronica by DJ Tonic (Tony Camilo).  After the gambling ends, local musicians Miss Fairchild will heat up the dance floor with their multi-faceted original music.

The evening is sponsored in part by a grant from the Nantucket Cultural Council, a division of the Mass Cultural Council.  The Weezie Foundation has also offered a matching grant for the NAC scholarship fund, so all donations will be matched from this event.  And Cisco/Triple Eight will provide a special martini menu, with some proceeds also benefiting the scholarship fund.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, but the event may sell out, so get your tickets early through the NAC office at  508-325-8588 or pick them up at Bookworks or the Rose and Crown.

The Nantucket Arts Council provides scholarships to year-round Nantucket residents who are graduating High School Seniors and who wish to continue their education in the arts at the college level.  NAC supports study in the fields of music, dance, literature, drama, and the visual arts.  Selections for scholarship are based on recommendations, interviews, and the candidates work, and decisions are based solely on the merits of the candidates.

Over the years, the Arts Council has awarded more than $175,000 in scholarships.  Applications must be postmarked by May 15 and sent to Nantucket Arts Council, Box 2176, Nantucket, MA 02584 Attn:  Leslie Malcolm.
