Love My Garden Contest

The feelings of joy and satisfaction derived from the time and effort that it takes to create a beautiful flower garden may truly be their own reward…but statewide recognition and cash don’t hurt either!  Nantucket (and Massachusetts) residents have the opportunity to win both this summer through the Massachusetts Flower Growers’ Association’s second annual “Love My Garden” Contest, running through September 1.  Bartlett’s Farm is one of the Association members helping to promote the statewide contest, which gives households the opportunity to showcase their flower gardens and win one of many prizes including a $500 gift certificate that can be redeemed at Bartlett’s Farm.

To celebrate the kick-off of this year’s MFGA “Love my Garden” Contest, Bartlett’s is holding an afternoon informational session on June 20 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the garden center.  Attendees can stroll through the greenhouse and shade garden for inspiration and information.  Special pricing on annuals and perennials will be available, and extra staff will be on hand to answer questions and give advice on planting and maintaining gardens.  A photographer will be available to give tips on taking pictures of your flowers.

To enter the MFGA “Love My Garden” Contest, participants must submit two photos of their home flower garden and a complete contest entry form, available at Bartlett’s Farm.

The contest celebrates the beauty and joy of Massachusetts-grown plants and flowers and encourages support of local independent garden centers and farm stands.  More than 100 gardeners from communities across Massachusetts entered last year’s “Love My Garden” Contest, and over $1500 in garden center certificates were awarded to these skilled amateur gardeners.

“Love My Garden” contest winners will be selected from each of four regions, and contestant winners cannot win two years in a row.  Gardens will be judged on flower/plant variety (combined use of annuals and perennials preferred, but not mandatory), design, overall appeal, and the seasonal color and planting of the flower garden. All entries must be received by September 1, 2007.  For details,  come to Bartlett’s Farm on June 20.
