Fall Opportunites to Learn and Make Music

NCMC/Nantucket School of Music has expanded its fall programs to include additional opportunities for music studay and performance for both adults and children. In addition to private lessons on piano, guitar, violin, cello, bass, flute, clarinet, drums, and voice, there are classes in recorder for children ages 6 to 8, in blues guitar and in music theory and songwriting for guitarists ages 13 to adult, and a workshop on learning to play harmonica for ages 12 through adult.

New this year is an inter-generational orchestra for youth and adults who play strings, winds, or brass instruments; the orchestra will meet Monday evenings from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m.  Adults can also play in the Community Jazz Band, which will meet Tuesday nights from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  This is the time to get that trombone (or whatever instrument you played in high school or college) out of the closet, dust it off, and become reaquainted with the joy of making music with others.

There are also several opportunities for vocalists.  Men’s Chorus of will meet Wednesday nighst from 6:45 to 8 p.m., and the NCMC/Nantucket School of Music Chorus, which includes men and women, meets Monday nights from 7 to 9 p.m.

On Wednesday evenings from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m., there is a jazz band for Middle School students; and on Wednesday afternoons from 4:30 to 5:20 p.m. a chorus for children ages 6 through 14 wil meet.
