Poignant Comedy Opens at TWN

Imagine this...It’s New Years' Day in a diner just off Texas Highway 59…Barbie, a charismatic, big-haired lingerie saleswoman who is desperate to start her life over, encounters one troubled character after another.  First she meets Persephone, the sweet, lonely proprietor of the diner; then Kenneth, a young man on his own quest of self-discovery.  Finally, she reconnects with her nouveau-respectable sister Annette, who is determined to force Barbie Ann to face up to her responsibilities.  Heartbreak and hilarity ensues.

Lone Star Grace, written by Suzanne Bradbeer and directed by Giovanna Sardelli, is the newest offering by Theatre Workshop of Nantucket.  Opening night is Wednesday, June 13 at 8:30  p.m..  Before the opening night curtain rises, the Brotherhood of Thieves will host an opening night party at 7  p.m.

The seasoned cast included Susan McGinnis, founder of Seaside Shakespeare, who returns for her second consecutive summer of treading the boards at TWN; Laurel Devaney, whose acting career includes stage, film, and television;  Ciaran Byrne, an up and coming Nantucket actor often seen on the TWN stag; and Susan Beaumont, an active member of Nantucket Theatrical Productions.

Sardelli is no stranger to the Nantucket stage; in 2006, she directed Smell of the Kill for TWN and in 2005, she directed Bad Dates.  The set is a brilliant recreation of a diner, designed and executed by TWN’s Technical Director, Eric Schultz.  Schultz is a master of creativity and economy when it comes to set design and make almost anything out of available materials.

Lone Star Grace is partially underwritten by The Nantucket Arts Council.  It is their generosity that enable TWN to hire professional talent for this production.  Both McGinnis and Devaney are members of Actors Equity and Sardelli is a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.

Performances will be held Wed.-Sat. at 8:30 p.m. in the lower level theatre in the Methodist Church, 2 Centre St.  Tickets are $25 ($50 for the opening night party and show). To purchase tickets, call the box office at 508-228-4305 or visit their web site at www.theatreworkshop.com.
