Ballet Pros Grace Arts Week with Dance & Class
American Ballet Theatre Principal Dancer and International Guest Artist, Ethan Stiefel, bring the world's brightest dance stars to Nantucket for one magnificent performance on Friday, August 29 at 7 p.m. at the Nantucket High School Auditorium. Tickets, which range in cost from $15 to $75, are available online at nantucketatheneum.org or at the Atheneum, 1 India St.
Stiefel has made numerous television appearances, starred in the hit feature film, Center Stage and its forthcoming sequel, Center Stage 2 and was recently appointed Dean of the School of Dance at the North Carolina School of the Arts.
Stiefel will be joined by dancers from the American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, and the Royal Ballet.
As of August, the roster of performers joining Stiefel are Roberta Marquez, Gillian Murphy, Wendy Whelan, Marcelo Gomes, Johan Kobborg, Misty Copeland, Sascha Radetsky, Gemma Bond, and Blaine Hoven.
The program, hand-selected by Stiefel, is a spectacular mix of ballet and modern dance featuring the traditional classicism of Marius Petipa; the romanticism of Antony Tudor; one of today’s most innovative choreographers, Christopher Wheeldon, the enduring Twyla Tharp, and the unique styling of Bob Fosse. The program and cast formation may be subject to change.
In addition, Stiefel and other stars will teach a free youth master ballet class for students ages 12 to 18 years old on Saturday, August 30 at the Nantucket High School. Space is available in the class as of press time. To register, or for more information, please call 508-228-1110 ext. 107. Interested students should have at least two years of ballet class experience.
The Stiefel & Stars Friday performance is sponsored by Northern Trust, as well as private donors, and benefits the Nantucket Atheneum.
