Celebrate Summer

For centuries the summer solstice has been closely connected with the start of the summer season.  Just after midnight (or just before, depending on your calculation) on Saturday, June 21, the 2008 summer solstice will occur in the Northeast, and Bartlett Farm is celebrating.

From 8 a.m. to nearly sunset (8 p.m.), they are hosting a variety of events at the farm for the public to enjoy, including a jewelry trunk show from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., food samplings from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., face painting from 9 to 11 a.m. and again from noon to 3 p.m., and magic with Mark the Magician from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.  Also from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, Elin Hilderbrand will be signing copies of her new book.  Guests may participate in a Scavenger Hunt throughout the day, and storewide discounts will be offered all day.

At lunchtime and dinnertime, Bartlett’s staff will be grilling burgers and hot dogs in the Shade Garden, from 7 to 8 p.m. a special dessert tasting will be held, and there will be live music at various times during the day.

A few fun Summer Solstice facts from the folks at Bartlett Farm:

Sunrise is at 5:07 a.m. and Sunset is 8:17 p.m.

It's the longest day of the year for sunlight, but not the latest sunset.  The latest sunset occurs one minute later at 8:18 p.m. on June 25-28.
