Celebrate Fall

by Sarah Teach

Can you believe it’s already fall?  This Saturday, September 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Bartlett’s Farm will host another celebration of the seasons.  Participants will enjoy live, local music all day long.  Local band Castillo will cover the morning tunes from 10 a.m. ‘til noon.  From 1 p.m. ‘til 3 p.m., hear the “farm jam band,” which is a casual group of Bartlett’s workers who pick up their instruments and play. As usual, there will be a scavenger hunt for the kids, pine cone bird feeder making, and plenty more crafts and activities to keep the kids entertained. Meanwhile, the adults can sample farm-fresh foods like cookies, dips, cider, and even beignets!  You’ll definitely want to make it to the tent sale, where you’ll find some of the deepest discounts the farm offers all year!

If you’re not yet convinced, please note that this event offers hayrides. Admiit, deep down we have as much fun on hayrides as our kids do.  Go ahead and indulge.  Hop in the wagon behind the tractor; hang on for the bumpy ride, and Farmer Dave will take you all through the pumpkin fields!  And speaking of pumpkins, Farmer Dave and his crew have just started harvesting the biggest and best pumpkin crop Bartlett’s has ever seen!  You can buy a pumpkin now from the farm store; and Farmer Dave anticipates that pick-your-own-pumpkin season will begin by the first of October.  Don’t forget to grab an extra pumpkin for some baked pumpkin seeds and delicious homemade pie.

If you’re too tough to make pie, prove it by entering the Tug-Of-War for Charity, which will be happening during the Fall Celebration.  Gather a five-person team of your beefiest friends, pick your favorite island charity, and each chip in five bucks for the $25 entry fee.  But most importantly, get ready to get messy as you battle it out at high noon against the other teams!  All of the entry fees will go to the winning team's chosen charity.  Pre-registration can be done by calling 508-228-9403 ext. 12 or by visiting www.Bartlettsfarm.com

Also bear in mind that it’s high time to plant next year’s bulbs, and Bartlett’s has the best selection on-island.  Come on out for a day full of fall fun, and find your spring flowers while you’re at it!  Above all, come to simply enjoy being outside and to celebrate this delightful season on Nantucket.
