Pushing Boundaries with Smart Phones
by Sarah Teach
The newest wave of cell phone technology has brought a phenomenal new perspective to the world of art. Just ask photographer and Artists Association of Nantucket artist Russell Wieland, who will curate a “cellography” exhibit in an upstairs corner of the of the Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery.
Come to the “Open Skies” exhibition opening on June 17 from 6-8 pm and see what artists can do with their cell phone cameras. AAN Curator of Exhibitions Robert Frazier says of Wieland, “He argues that smart phone cameras are changing the landscape of photography and pushing the boundaries of artistic expression in new directions.” Come to the Gallery and see what this fresh phenomenon is all about.

In addition to the cellography, The Open Skies Exhibition will include artwork from the entire Nantucket community. “The majority of our exhbitions are for our members only,” commented Frazier, “however we do like to reach out to all artists in the commmunity and invite them to participate in the gallery. It’s exciting to see the work of young art students and other talented artists.”
The Artists Association of Nantucket will host the Open Skies exhibition at the Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery at 19 Washington Street from Thursday, June 17 until Monday, July 4.
