Village Green by Little Patriots
The Nantucket Arts Council is sponsoring a Fourth of July Village Green created by ye Little Patriots of Nantucket. The Arts Council has invited the many various island Pre-Schools, Kindergardens and Elementary Schools to each create a unique flag or other iconic symbol of the Fourth of July which will be displayed at the entrance to the Wannacomet Water Company at the start of Milestone Road. Each participating group will be offered a grant from the Arts Council through the generous support of Wannacomet. After seeing the great imagination the children used in creating flowers for our Magic Giant Daffodil Garden in April, we are expecting a red, white and blue explosion from our youngest citizens.
The Nantucket Arts Council is a non-profit philanthropic organization which has been active on-island for nearly 40 years. It is best known for producing the annual the Shakespeare in the Garden Performance (held June 30 this year), the Nantucket Arts Festival (to be held at the end of September), a Winter Concert Series, the Young People's Concert Series, and other events. Every year the Arts Council also awards Arts Scholarships to year-round Nantucket High School graduating seniors, and presents substantial monetary grants to provide financial support to island cultural and educational nonprofit organizations to assist them as they present year-round community programs.
The mission of the not-for-profit Nantucket Arts Council is in part to promote and foster art in the life of the entire island community. They are particularly eager to involve children with the arts, to excite their imagination and introduce them to what will hopefully become a lifelong passion. It is with this goal in mind that the Arts Council is coordinating this creative project with the young children of Nantucket for the celebration of America’s Independence Day.
