How have you been able to incorporate sustainable and green principles into your everyday life on Nantucket?

Bike, Walk and ride the bus

Walk or ride your bike. Do errands also for someone else. Ride the NRTA during the summer months.

Try not to buy gas during the Summer.

I will be buying a season pass from the NRTA this Summer. I did it last Summer and saved $100 per week in gas. I'm self-employed in the trades here on Nantucket. I drop all the gear and materials off at the job site at the start of the job. I then take the bus each day to work. Do not let the local gas station owners take advantage of you, at least for the Summer while the NRTA is available. I also ride my bike to the local supermarkets when I need to do my grocery shopping. Two full bags of groceries hang nicely from the handlebars. It's only going to get worse here folks. The price of gas will reach $6 per gallon by July I was told.

around island travel tips

I try to combine all my errands and shopping (what little shopping I do) into one trip. It also saves a significant amount of gas (sometimes as much as 3-4 miles per gallon) to make sure your car tires are aired up to their proper pressure. And if you can, but a can with the highest possible gas mileage.
